NCAA Sand Volleyball: Who's playing?

I want to know which colleges are putting together sand programs for this Fall and I don't know how to get that information short of calling up each institution. I hope the coastal schools are taking advantage of the emerging sport, but I just don't know who in particular is agile enough to build a program quickly enough to have it rolling in 7 months! If you have any insider info, anything would be much appreciated.

NCAA Sand Volleyball Parameters

The 2011 NCAA convention got a ton done on the sand volleyball front. Some parameters vary depending on if the school has a women's indoor volleyball team or not. A Dual is a one-day competition format borrowed from tennis, where all 5 teams face off in order of rank. 1 v 1, 2 v 2, 3 v 3, etc. The basics of D1 Collegiate Sand Volleyball:

The Setup:

• 2 sand coaches
• 2 sand recruiters
• 14 sand players
• 8-16 Contests
• 3 sand scholarships (increasing 1/yr until there are 6 scholarships for dual-sport schools and 8 for sand-only schools)

The Season

• 132 day sand season split into 2 segments: 
• The Nonchampionship Segment starting September 7th- 2 Contests can be entered
• The Championship Segment starting on the first Thursday in March through end of Recognized National Championships- 16 Contests can be entered
•  The above Contest limits don't include championship, alumni games, fund-raising, charity, or celebrity events
• One Dual per year against a Club Team can count toward minimum competition requirements
• One Tournament per year may count as long as 40% of teams are club teams

 The Competitions:

• 8 to 16 Competitions consisting of Duals and Multi-opponent Tournaments
• At least 3 competitions have to be Duals

Pro Beach Tour

Aspiring athletes, especially in college, want to take full advantage of whatever their sport offers, and if the FIVB is a sustainable tour (which it has proven itself to be) that players can aspire to play in, then USA’s rules MUST mimic the rules chosen by the FIVB! I’m proud of the old sport that was invented on the beaches of Santa Monica and perfected by Karch, but if the US wants to be a powerhouse on an international level then we must coordinate with the FIVB tour.

We shouldn’t forget about the past greats, but I say we focus on FUTURE American players or else we’ll force them overseas, where the money is good and the tour will last.

I am a fan of USAV/IMG working with the National Volleyball League relationship. However, I find it disappointing that Karch and the Corona Wide Open Tour isn't at least coordinating to maximize attendance at all events. It's just good business to coordinate dates.
